MIDI Tempo Scope

MIDI Tempo Scope is a live, read-ahead conductor tempo display for orchestral recording sessions. Load the session's click file and it shows the complete tempo map ahead of the playhead - every accelerando and ritardando laid out before it arrives - locked precisely to your DAW. Built by John Walton from many years on the podium, it solves the oldest problem of recording to click: not knowing what the tempo is about to do.

The display: a read-ahead tempo curve that traces the click file exactly - a written accelerando or ritardando drawn as a clean rising or falling line, and a sudden change as a crisp vertical step at the bar - so what you see is precisely what was written, laid out ahead of the playhead and locked to it through play, stop and drop-ins. Colour marks direction - blue for steady, green for speeding up, red for slowing down - in a dual palette that stays legible to a colour-blind eye. A bright beat ring rides the tempo line itself, shaped for direction: a triangle up for accelerando, a triangle down for ritardando, a bar for steady, with the downbeat emphasised. An adjustable Lead control shows each change a fraction early, so players see it coming. Alongside it sit live tempo, next-change and bar:beat readouts.
